Since the beginning of time, or at least the beginning of Bristol Park Medical Group in 1961, the patient’s medical record has been an ever-expanding collection of doctor’s notes, lab and x-ray reports and various other pieces of paper. But, no more; Electronic Medical Records (EMR) arrives August 12.
Bristol Park Medical Group started on the road to EMR about four years ago with the monumental task of converting all existing paper patient charts (over 120,000 multi-page files) to electronic images by scanning them into the computer. Next came the installation of computers into all the exam rooms, so that information could be called up for review. Now comes the new Electronic Medical Record system. Physicians, nurses, and staff will input medical notes, results, etc. directly into the system by clicking and typing on custom designed electronic pages.
We’re excited about EMR, but all new systems come with a learning curve. And, even though physicians and staff have had extensive training on the new system, in the weeks following August 12, we anticipate a period of adjustment as everyone becomes really familiar with this new technology. We kindly ask your indulgence and patience as appointment times will likely take a bit longer and access to physicians will be temporarily reduced to accommodate the longer appointments.
Everybody Benefits
